Technidrill
is a specialized builder of precision deep hole drilling
systems. Having started in 1947 as the Ward Riddle Co. in
Ravenna, Ohio manufacturing precision aircraft fuel and
braking systems components. These high tolerance parts required special
manufacturing processes with drilled diameters within
.0005" and true position of .0005" per inch of depth.
Hugh Riddle
the owner, a mechanical engineer and teaching professor at Case
Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio would eventually
design a gundrill system that he would adapt to his Warner
Swasey turret lathes, producing the depth and diameter
tolerances required. By 1955 this inexpensive gundrill
attachment was being marketed by the Warner Swasey company as an after
market option.
In the late
60's the owner retired and allowed his Chief Engineer to take
possession of the company. The new younger more aggressive
owner would restructure the company, phasing out the aircraft
component side of the business and promoting the gundrilling
machine
division. The company was renamed Phillips Precision
Drilling. Soon the
company was providing complete gundrilling systems to the Aerospace
industries, its original component customers.
In 1970 the
company experienced a growth spurt that would introduce its
gundrilling products beyond Aerospace into the defense products
industry.
Companies like General Electric,
Westinghouse and General Motors would soon be utilizing the
gundrilling systems. The company also entered into an agreement
with Sandvik Coromant to design and build the first dedicated
Ejector drilling system in the United States. The system would
increase drilling penetration rates up to seven times that of
conventional gundrilling. To date the company has built more
Ejector drilling machines than any other U.S. manufacturer.
In 1984 The
Chief Executive would fall victim to a serious illness and drop
from the scene. Again the current Chief Engineer James Kent
would take possession of the company and move the company to the
next level.
The new name of
Technidrill Systems, Inc. would be adopted in June 1985. With a
new name and James Kent as president the corporation would begin
to supply equipment to new industries such as the oil field
service providers like Halliburton Energy, Hughes Tool and Otis
Engineering. These customers would propel Technidrill to a new
level of very large deep hole drilling systems utilizing
Ejector, BTA, and Trepanning tooling. During this period
Technidrill also entered the automotive part manufacturing
industries, developing its multiple spindle gundrill and BTA
machines for steering racks and transmission shafts along with
machines for very small hole drilling for parts such as fuel injectors and
rocker arms.
The Growth in
the plastic mold manufacturing industry fueled the design of
Technidrill's three and four axis mold drilling centers.
In recent years the
company began to design machines suited to sporting arms
manufactures. Beginning with the development of a CNC controlled
rifling machine.
Technidrill has
been successful to date in the design and manufacturing of
quality deep hole drilling machines by virtue of the high
expertise and experience of top level management and shop
personnel.
Because of a strong reputation, for
quality, service, continued technological advancement and our
commitment to our customers, the company looks forward to
continued steady growth
